The digital prayer installations have been in use since July at St Michael’s church in Hawkshead, Cumbria, and at St Peter’s church in Hackney, London. These churches were chosen for the pilot project for their contrasting locations and different types of church communities: St Michael’s is in rural Lake District and St Peter’s is in central London.
The digital prayer installations to promote empathy between physically separated communities, have drawn local and national media attention:
- Digital prayer project links Hawkshead & Hackney churches (Premier, 6 July 2015)
- Praying in the digital age (ITV, 16 July 2015)
- Digital prayer project connects churches in Cumbria and London (Premier Christian Radio, 3 July 2015)
The response from the church communities has been very good and, according to Reverend John Dixon from Hawkshead, especially younger church visitors have engaged with the digital prayer installation.
Watch Reverend John Dixon and Professor Paul Coulton from Lancaster University talk about the project.
